The Company
J&L Handmade creates handmade soaps and personal care products,
using therapeutic essential oils and natural botanicals. During
production emphasis is placed on the needs of the customer and a
holistic approach is followed to formulate an aromatherapy blend
that will suit the customer’s requirements. This customization
process is not limited to the additives for that product. Color,
shape and size are also included in the design as a result of the
client’s input. From these customized creations, “standards”
emerge and become part of our basic product line.
The Design Process
Most of J&L Handmade bar soaps are made from a glycerin
based soap product, using the "melt and pour" method.
Vitamins, butters and moisturizers are included for optimum skin
care along with the chosen blend. This formulation is then named
and can then be carried over to other products.

For example, the Extra Virgin formula contains Extra Virgin Olive
Oil, and the Essential oils of Carrot Seed, Geranium and
Ylang Ylang. This is then used in bar soap, liquid soap,
shampoo, conditioner and other forms of product based on the clients’
request.
Meet Cae Byng
Cae Byng, proud owner of J&L Handmade,
is a certified aroma therapist who has experimented with different
forms of application. While learning about the science and use of
Essential Oils at the Northeast
Holistic Center (NHC), Cae realized that tinctures and blends
were more readily accepted when presented in everyday products like
soaps and lotions. She incorporates her experience in aromatherapy,
her creativity and knowledge of soap making to create her handmade
soap and personal care products – her business designs and
manufactures customized products using Essential oils and natural
botanicals.
She takes a holistic approach to her skin care line
and produces items specifically geared to the customers’ needs
and life style.
Cae is an active member of the Handmade
Beauty Network (HBN), National
Association of Female Executives (NAFE), Brooklyn
Executive Business Women’s Association (BEBWA), Holistic
Health Practitioners Alliance (HHPA), and the Women’s
Business Center with the Local Development Center of East New York.
She is also a Graduate of the New Directions Program, sponsored
by the American Women’s’ Economical Development Corporation
(AWED), and the Women’s
Center for Education and Career Advancement. These associations
provide her with the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and the necessary
business skills to run a successful business. They also provide
her with support that has enhanced her self confidence and boosted
her determination to succeed in this venture she is so passionate
about.

base that extends worldwide including England,
Bali, Tobago, Guyana, Grenada as well as across
the United States.
J&L Handmade has since expanded to include
gift baskets, party favors and will soon offer soap making
workshop. |
